Leipzig Book Fair
Leipzig book fair is held annually in March, and it is the most important spring meeting place for the publishing and media sector in Germany.
The website for the fair at leipziger-messe.de/LeMMon/buch_web_eng.nsf has updated information on the fair. The fair has evolved over the years into a hallmark event for both Germany and for Europe. The aim of the Leipzig Book Fair is to bring more publicity for books. The event is held every March, and brings together publishers, writers, readers and journalists. One of the aims of the fair is to provide information about new publications as well as current and future trends in the German-speaking and European markets. For publishers, the event provides a venue where they come face to face with the public and trade visitors. Also, Leipzig Reads is Europe's biggest festival of literature and features more than 1,900 events held at 350 different venues. The statistics for the past events have been impressive. For example, in spring 2007, the Leipzig Book Fair had 2,348 publishers from 36 countries and was visited by 127,500 visitors. The event at that time was covered in the media by 2,600 journalists from 28 countries.
