Tudor Bookshop
Tudor bookshop (now closed), was one of the most famous independent bookstores in Pennsylvania, founded in 1976.
The bookshop in fact celebrated its 30th Anniversary of independent book selling in November 2006, two years before closing its doors. The store was founded in 1976 by Barbara Shaffer, and quickly became a center for many book related services and products. The cafe also had a full service cafe that was the first in the community to serve espresso drinks and to be trained by Seattle professionals. The store also sold gifts that included frames, toys, candles, soaps, and imprinted stationery and invitations from national albums. They also started doing craft handmade jewelry and hand puppets before closing shop for good. One of the cornerstones why Tudor became a community favorite were the author visits, which numbered close to 1000 authors over the years. As part of these events, local authors were very important. Group events to support local institutions were also significant in planning such happenings. Exciting group appearances included a Mystery Writers meeting which included the now famous Dennis Le Hane. In fact, some 40 nationally published authors will have visited the Valley and Kingston, PA, because of these events.
